How Do I Get To Heaven?
A simple Bible lesson for children
Parent led lesson by Saint AVS
Hi (child's name)
Today we are going to learn something very important.
We are going to learn:
How do I get to heaven?
This is not a hard lesson.
This is a beautiful lesson.
And the answer is very simple:
Jesus takes me to heaven when I believe in Him.
Not because I am perfect.
Not because I never do anything wrong.
Not because I am the best child in the world.
Jesus takes me to heaven because He loves me, He died for me, He rose again from the dead, and He keeps His promise.

Parent says:
God loves you.
Jesus loves you.
Jesus knows everything about you.
He knows when you are kind.
He knows when you are happy.
He knows when you are sad.
He knows when you do something wrong.
And Jesus still loves you.
That is called grace.
Can you say grace?
Child says: Grace.
What is grace?
Grace means Jesus is kind to us even when we do not deserve it.
Let’s pretend someone was unkind to you.
Maybe they pushed you.
Maybe they took your toy.
Maybe they made you sad.
But instead of being unkind back, you still loved them.
You still gave them a hug.
That is a little picture of grace.
Grace means kindness that is freely given.
Jesus gives grace.
We have all done wrong things, but Jesus still loves us.
Jesus still wants to take us to heaven.

Parent asks:
If you do something wrong, does Jesus stop loving you?
Let the child answer.
Parent says:
Jesus still loves you.
Jesus gives grace.
Now say this with me:
Grace means Jesus loves me even when I have done wrong.
Bible verse
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Parent says:
The Bible says God loved the world.
That means God loves people.
That means God loves you.
God gave His Son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus died for us.
Jesus rose again.
And Jesus gives everlasting life to the one who believes in Him.
Everlasting life means life with Jesus forever.
Which is a good thing.
A perfect thing.
That means Jesus takes the believer to heaven.

What is faith?
Faith means believing Jesus.
Faith means trusting Jesus.
Let’s think about this.
When you go to nursery or school, and mummy or daddy says, “I will come and get you,” you believe them.
You cannot see them all day.
But you trust them.
You believe they are coming.
That is a little picture of faith.
But Jesus is even better than mummy and daddy.
Mummy or daddy might be late.
But Jesus is never late.
Mummy or daddy might forget something.
But Jesus never forgets.
Jesus never lies.
Jesus never breaks His promise.
Because Jesus is Perfect, He never did anything wrong!
When Jesus says He gives everlasting life to the one who believes in Him, He means it.

Parent asks:
When mummy or daddy says, “I will come and get you,” do you trust them?
Let the child answer.
Parent says: That is trust. (If they got it right)
Now listen carefully.
Jesus says He gives everlasting life to the one who believes in Him.
Do we trust Jesus?
Let the child answer naturally.
Parent says:
Yes. We trust Jesus because Jesus always tells the truth.
Bible verse
Acts 16:31
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Parent says:
The Bible says:
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
That means we trust Jesus.
Not ourselves.
Not our good behaviour.
Not being good enough.
Not trying really hard.
We trust Jesus.
Jesus is the one who takes us to heaven.

Little question game
Parent asks:
Who loves you?
Child answers:
Jesus.
Parent asks:
Who died for you and rose again?
Child answers:
Jesus.
Parent asks:
Who takes you to heaven?
Child answers:
Jesus.
Parent asks:
Do you take yourself to heaven?
Child answers:
No.
Parent asks:
Do your good works take you to heaven?
Child answers:
No.
Parent asks:
Who are we trusting?
Child answers:
Jesus.
Parent says:
That is right.
We are trusting Jesus.
A simple picture
Imagine there is a big strong boat.
You are inside the boat.
The boat carries you safely.
Are you carrying the boat?
No.
The boat carries you.
That helps us understand.
We do not carry ourselves to heaven.
Jesus takes us.
We are trusting Him.

Noah and the ark
Noah was safe in the ark.
The ark carried Noah through the water.
Noah did not carry the ark.
The ark carried Noah.
In a much greater way, Jesus saves the believer.
We do not save ourselves.
Jesus saves us.
Bible verse
John 6:47
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
Parent says:
Jesus says the one who believes in Him has everlasting life.
That means Jesus gives life forever.
Jesus does not say:
“Try really hard and maybe I will take you to heaven.”
Jesus does not say:
“Be perfect and maybe I will love you.”
Jesus says:
He that believeth (believes) on me hath (has) everlasting life.
That means when you believe in Jesus, He gives you everlasting life.

Understanding check
Parent asks:
If someone says, “I get to heaven because I am really good,” is that right?
Let the child answer.
Parent says:
No. Being good is nice, but being good does not take us to heaven.
Jesus takes us to heaven.
Parent asks:
If someone says, “Jesus takes me to heaven because I believe in Him,” is that right?
Let the child answer.
Parent says:
Yes. That is right.
Jesus takes the believer to heaven.
Say it together
Parent and child say together:
Jesus loves me.
Jesus died for me.
Jesus rose again.
Jesus promises everlasting life.
I believe Jesus.
I trust Jesus to take me to heaven.
Jesus never lies.
Jesus keeps His promise.

Final questions
Parent asks:
Does Jesus love you?
Child answers:
Yes.
Parent asks:
Did Jesus die for you and rise again?
Child answers:
Yes.
Parent asks:
Who takes you to heaven?
Child answers:
Jesus.
Parent asks:
What do we do?
Child answers:
Believe in Jesus.
Parent asks:
Are we trusting ourselves or Jesus?
Child answers:
Jesus.
Parent asks:
Does Jesus keep His promise?
Child answers:
Yes.
Parent asks:
Can Jesus let you down?
Child answers:
No.
Closing words
Jesus loves you.
Jesus died for you.
Jesus rose again.
Jesus promises everlasting life to the one who believes in Him.
If you believe Jesus to take you to heaven, you are trusting Him.
Jesus never lies.
Jesus never forgets.
Jesus never breaks His promise.
Jesus saves the one who believes in Him.
Parent note
This lesson is designed to help a child understand, not merely repeat words.
Do not pressure the child.
Ask the questions gently. Be patient.
Let the child answer in their own words.
The goal is for the child to understand that Jesus is the one who takes them to heaven, and that they are trusting Him alone.
Salvation is by grace through faith, not by works.
YAH Bless!
